Gastvortrag von Professor Bart Barendregt (Universiteit Leiden)

Digital technologies and religion both produce futures in professional as well as popular imagination. The ideal of an Islamic information society spearheading the latest technologies offers a model for an alternative to the dominant pathways of digital transition: Californian 'big tech', the Chinese social credit system, or European regulation. Bart Barendregt, professor of Digital Anthropology at Leiden University, is PI of the NWO-VICI project “One Among Zeroes |0100| Towards an Anthropology of Everyday AI in Islam”.

|0100| delivers salient ethnographic portraits as well as an overarching socio-anthropological analysis, of what digital everyday religion is like, how AI is used 'in the wild' in Southeast Asia, and how digital technology contributes to exciting societal experiments and ethical dilemmas. After a guest lecture by Bart Barendregt, the floor will be opened for discussion.

Bart Barendregt ist Professor für Digitale Anthropologie am Leidener Institut für Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology (CADS) und Inhaber des UNESCO Chair of Digital Diversity. Er ist derzeit PI des NWO-VICI-Projekts One Among Zeroes |0100| Towards an Anthropology of Everyday AI in Islam.

Der Vortrag findet in englischer Sprache statt. Weitere Informationen finden Sie auf der Website des Instituts.
